Bhubaneswar: State School and Mass Education Minister Samir Dash seemed optimistic today when he said that the department is ready to conduct the remaining of the Plus-II exams post the COVID-19 lockdown period.

Dash, however, mentioned that the department is awaiting confirmation from the government in this regard.

Reportedly, the Plus-II exams commenced on March 3 and were held as per schedule till March 21. However, the exam conducting body Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) had to postpone the exams of the remaining papers following the declaration of lockdown in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.

An official statement of CHSE earlier mentioned, "Notification for conduct of the postponed examinations will be issued after necessary directions received from the government when the situation improves."

Today, speaking to media, S&ME Minister said, "As many colleges earlier designated as exam centres have been converted into quarantine camps, the centre selection will be done accordingly. As CBSE is prepared to conduct remaining of the exams after the lockdown period, our department too has plans to announce dates immediately after getting a go-ahead from the government post lifting of lockdown. Students will be informed at least ten days in advance. But we will ensure all precautionary measures are taken and every person who is a part of CHSE exams, directly or indirectly, would strictly maintain social distancing and follow all guidelines related to COVID-19 lockdown."

It is pertinent to mention here that this year around 2,18,800 candidates are appearing the Plus-2 exams in Arts stream, 98536 candidates in Science stream and 25770 in the Commerce stream.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has also made it clear that it will conduct the board examination for Class 10 and 12 students after the COVID-19 lockdown is lifted. The examinations will be held for 29 subjects.
