Bhubaneswar: The mega series ‘Chha Mana Atha Guntha’ is waiting in the wings to be aired on Tarang - the 24-hour entertainment channel on 18th April.

A special function was organised in the city on Saturday to launch Tarang’s new series which is to be telecast under the tagline ‘Aai Maatir Katha’ meaning ‘Story from the Soil.’ On the occasion, while sampling a few scenes from the story, it elicited huge response among the members of the audience.

Based on Fakir Mohan Senapati’s time-defying classic in the same name, Tarang’s rendition of the mega series would literally expand the small screen.

The fictional story deeply rooted in Odia psyche is known for its relevance and appeal. Documenting the compelling story through the paradigm of Bhagia and Saria — the story’ central characters, celebrating their quintessential innocence — the series would put the poignant struggle of social underdog on screen for everybody to see and identify with.

The classic known for its rich characters exemplified by the antagonist Zamindar Ramachandra Mangaraj would make us reflect on the then Zamindari system and the mindless exploitation it is associated with.

Besides, the audience would cherish the character of incorrigible Champa, in fact all the characters in the story and the story itself which has a kind of mellowness and definitely no crispness or quick and easy sentimentality to it.

The launch function was attended by all the artists of the series and people from the channel responsible for this ambitious production.

Kesab Rout, Producer of the series said, “If we tell these stories through serials, the stories will dazzle even after 100 years.” Directed by Raju Mihsra, the mega series will be telecast on weekdays (Monday to Thursday) at 9 PM.

According to Tarang’s authorities, audience will definitely appreciate the channel’s initiative in selecting the classic stories and putting them on TV.

Bibhu Prasad Rath, Director, Odisha Television Network said, “We all have read these classic stories and hope that the serials would be commercially hit and audience will appreciate them in a big way.”

“Post ‘Chha Mana Atha Guntha’ — Tarang is planning to come up with a string of serials based on ground-breaking classics penned downed by the prolific Odia writers of the yesteryears,” sources said.
