Legal pressure once again mounted on the self-styled godman Sarathi alias Santosh Raul on Friday, with authorities framing charges against him. Formal charges were framed in the case originally filed by Odisha Crime Branch, marking a crucial step forward in the long-running investigation.

According to sources, the submission was made before the Special SC & ST Court in Cuttack, which will now proceed with the next judicial stage. Next hearing of the case is scheduled for January 16, 2026, where further arguments and procedural developments are expected.
Investigators noted that the framing of charges consolidates the evidence collected so far and signals the beginning of focused courtroom proceedings. The case, which has drawn significant public interest, continues to move through the legal system with renewed momentum.
However, no comments were received from the Crime Branch in this regard.
There was an allegation that, on the pretext of getting the complainant’s son a job, financial fraud and caste-based abuse had taken place at Barimula Ashram in Kendrapara.
After a case was registered in this regard, the Crime Branch had arrested Sarathi and five associates under charges of financial fraud and provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act, and submitted a charge sheet in the lower court.
Worth mentioning, the self-styled godman had earlier hogged the headline as a large group of his followers gathered in Bhubaneswar on November 5 to celebrate his birthday through puja, bhajan and kirtan, despite previous court-imposed restrictions on public gatherings and devotional events in his name.
Many had been seen dancing to songs dedicated to the godman and recounting so-called miracle stories associated with him. Sources said the celebrations also included devotional singing and food distribution among needy and poor people.
