A late-night road accident was reported at Acharya Vihar Square in Odisha's Bhubaneswar after a car rammed into an on-duty police patrolling vehicle, leaving three persons seriously injured.
The incident occurred at around 1.15 am on Friday night, triggering brief tension in the area.
Accident During Night Patrolling
According to reports, the car reportedly hit the police patrolling van that was parked by the side of the road at Acharya Vihar Square. At the time of the accident, police personnel were on routine night patrol as part of the Commissionerate Police’s efforts to curb crime in Bhubaneswar.
The impact of the collision was severe, causing significant damage to the front portion of the four-wheeler and the rear side of the police patrolling van.
Injured Shifted To Hospital
In the accident, a police officer who was on duty in the patrolling vehicle, the car driver, and another individual sustained serious injuries. All three were immediately shifted to Capital Hospital for medical treatment.
Sources said Balianta IIC, along with other police staff, was on night patrol when the accident took place. The car reportedly rammed into the rear of the police vehicle during the patrol.
Investigation Under Way
Following the accident, personnel from Saheednagar Police Station reached the spot, cleared the road, and restored traffic movement. Police have launched an investigation into the incident and were reviewing CCTV footage from the area at the time of reporting.
Overspeeding Suspected
Acharya Vihar is known to witness frequent accidents, particularly during late-night hours, due to overspeeding by negligent drivers when roads remain relatively clear. However, the exact cause of the accident remains unclear. It is yet to be ascertained whether the driver was overspeeding due to negligence or was driving under the influence of alcohol or any other contraband.
