Bhubaneswar: One more bus carrying around 40 Odia migrants met with an accident today, killing one person and leaving as many as two others injured. As per reports, the bus was en-route to Banki in Khurda from Hyderabad when the mishap occurred on NH-16 near Kuhudi in the district.

While the exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the bus driver might have lost control over the vehicle as it dashed into a truck before veering off the road.

Tangi fire services personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the passengers. Two migrants, who sustained minor injuries in the accident, have been admitted to Tangi hospital, said sources.

The migrants will soon be shifted to their destination in another bus, informed sources citing an official present on the spot.

It is the fourth such road mishap in a row when a bus ferrying Odia migrants from other States met with an accident while en-route to Odisha. On May 2, a bus carrying migrants from Surat met with an accident near Andharkote at Kalinga Ghat on Kandhamal-Ganjam border of the State. Even though a major disaster was averted as the bus stopped short of plunging into a 200 metre-deep valley on the other side of the Ghat, at least two persons were killed in the mishap.

On Sunday, at least three Prabasi Odias were injured after the bus ferrying them to Odisha from Surat met with an accident in Kandhamal district. A rescue operation was subsequently launched by police and fire services department.

Similarly, five persons were injured on Sunday, after the bus ferrying migrants from Surat to Ganjam district overturned near Karanja on Nagpur-Amravati National Highway (NH) in Maharashtra. The bus was carrying around 50 Prabasi Odias from Surat on May 1.

All the injured including two bus staff and three migrants were admitted to nearby Karanja hospital in Maharashtra.
