Burglars allegedly broke into a locked house and made away with cash and gold ornaments worth over Rs 1 lakh at Patapur village under Udala police station limits in Odisha's Mayurbhanj. The incident targeted the residence of local villager Banoj Badhei.

According to sources, the burglary took place when no one was present at the house, as family members had gone out to attend a Bathudi cultural programme. On returning home late at night, they were shocked to find the house lock broken and clear signs of forced entry.

The miscreants reportedly broke open both the first and second grill gates before entering the house. They allegedly looted around Rs 60,000 in cash and gold ornaments valued at more than Rs 1 lakh from inside the premises.

Describing the incident, the complainant, Banoj Badhei, said the burglars damaged both grill gates to gain entry into the house. “When I entered the house, I found that both the first and second grill gates had been broken. The amount looted is estimated to be over Rs 60,000 in cash, besides gold ornaments,” he said.

Following the complaint, police reached the spot and launched an investigation. Officers are examining the crime scene and questioning local residents to identify the culprits. No arrests have been made so far.

The incident has caused concern among residents of the area, who have demanded increased night patrolling to prevent such crimes. Police said further investigation is underway, and efforts are being made to trace the accused.
