Panic gripped Chikalakhandi village under Chhatrapur police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district after miscreants allegedly hurled a bomb at a house late on Monday night, causing extensive damage to the structure and household articles.

According to sources, the explosive was thrown at the residence of G. Kamaraju Reddy while family members were asleep inside the house. The blast led to the partial collapse of a wall and caused severe damage to furniture and other household items.

Three members of the family narrowly escaped unhurt in the incident, though they were left traumatised by the sudden explosion. Local residents rushed to the spot after hearing the loud blast and immediately informed the police.

While the exact motive behind the attack is yet to be established, police suspect past enmity may have triggered the incident.

On receiving information, Chhatrapur police, along with the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), reached the village and launched an investigation. A forensic team is likely to examine the crime scene to ascertain the nature of the explosive used.

Police have registered a case and are questioning local residents to identify those involved in the attack. CCTV footage from cameras installed in and around the locality is also being examined. Further investigation is underway.
