Bolangir: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the Bhima Bhoi Medical College & Hospital in Bolangir today in the presence of Union Health Minister J P Nadda.

A total of 100 students have enrolled for the first batch of the institution beginning this academic session.

As per reports, the proposal for setting up of the hospital was first passed in the year 1999 by Western Odisha Development Council. While the foundation stone was laid by the CM in 2004, at least four MoUs between the state government and different private companies on establishment of the hospital were cancelled on different occasions.

Later, in 2013, the Centre announced setting up of four colleges in Odisha following which the foundation laying ceremony was held again in the same year.

Earlier on Thursday, a political slugfest ensued after name of Union Health Minister JP Nadda was found missing in the State government's invitation letter for inauguration of the Bolangir Medical College & Hospital.

Following protests by the BJP, invitation cards bearing Union Minister Nadda's name were reprinted, informed sources.
