In a grim turn of events, the body of a young man who drowned in the Baitarani River fifteen days ago was recovered on Sunday, bringing an end to an anxious search that had gripped villagers and authorities in Keonjhar district.
The incident dates back to November 2, when a youth reportedly drowned near the under-construction Kanupur Dam in the Joda block of Keonjhar. According to police, the man had ventured close to the riverbank when he lost balance and was swept away by the strong current.
Emergency teams from Joda Police Station and the Fire Services Department rushed to the site within minutes and launched a rescue operation. Despite extensive searches along the river stretch, the missing youth could not be located.
