A disturbing incident surfaced from Raighar block in Nabarangpur district, where the body of an elderly woman was transported on a motorcycle. The deceased has been identified as Bhanu Bai Raut. She hailed from Sambalpur and was living in a village under Kundei panchayat at her daughter’s residence.

In a move that has drawn widespread criticism, her son chose not to arrange a hearse and instead carried the body back home on a motorcycle, covering nearly five kilometres.

Viral Video Triggers Questions

Footage of the act has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread condemnation. Many have questioned why the son did not approach a hearse service and instead chose to transport his mother’s body in what is being described as a highly disrespectful manner. While local residents have voiced their criticism, no response could be received from the son.

Strained Family Relations Reported

As per reports, the deceased did not share a good relationship with her son. It has also been alleged that she had been living with her daughter for over five years until her death. The elderly woman is believed to have died of natural causes linked to old age. On learning of her demise, the son reportedly decided to bring her remains back to his home by motorcycle.

Lack of Awareness Suspected

It is being suspected that due to a lack of awareness, the son did not contact the government service available. The incident has raised serious concerns over both social sensitivity and public awareness regarding the dignified handling of the deceased.
