Blot On Khaki: Police Officer In Odisha Accused Of Raping Woman On Pretext Of Marriage

Bhubaneswar: A woman on Thursday accused a sub-inspector (SI) working under Commissionerate Police here of raping, impregnating and defrauding her of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of marriage.

According to the complaint of the woman, the accused, identified Rakesh Samal, developed an affair with her after befriending her through Facebook. She alleged that the accused kept physical relations with her on several occasions on the pretext of marriage.

She further alleged that the cop defrauded her of Rs 5 lakh.

"He had promised that he would marry me within 15 days. He also took Rs 5 lakh from me promising that he would buy a bike for me.  However, he betrayed me and is absconding now. I want justice," the complainant told the media.

The complainant further alleged that the accused cop forced her to undergo abortion when she became pregnant with his child.

The woman lodged a complaint against the accused at the Mahila Police Station following which a case was registered under relevant Sections of IPC. The statement of the complainant will be recorded under Section 164 on Friday, the police said.

Meanwhile, the Capital Police authorities informed the Commissionerate Police that the cop is absent from duty without approval for over one month.
