During the Zero Hour of the Odisha Assembly today, BJP legislator Prakash Sethi revisited the controversial assassination of Swami Lakshmanananda Saraswati, a case that had sparked major debate and unrest in 2008. He pointed out that several questions had been raised about the investigation carried out at the time, leaving doubts and unresolved issues lingering for years.
Sethi emphasised that justice for Swamiji remains incomplete unless the actual perpetrators are exposed. Highlighting public sentiment and longstanding suspicion, he argued that only a fresh, transparent investigation can restore faith and bring clarity to the case.
Calls for Government Action and Clarity
The BJP MLA pressed the government to inform whether any preparations or decisions have been made to reopen the probe. He insisted that the House deserves to know the present status of the case, including what actions, if any, the authorities are taking to address the long-standing concerns surrounding the investigation.
On the date of 23rd August 2008, some assailants brutally murdered Swami Lakshmanananda Saraswati and four of his followers. The incident then shocked the nation.
As the demand for a renewed probe resurfaces in the Assembly, the focus now shifts to the government’s response. Whether the state will initiate a fresh investigation into the 2008 murder could determine the next chapter in a case that continues to evoke strong public emotion and political interest.
