The suspension of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLAs Arvind Mohapatra and Sanatan Mahakud has sparked fresh political reactions, with expelled party leader Shreemayee Mishra once again launching a public attack on the party leadership. On Monday, Mishra took to social media to post a series of remarks addressed to BJD president Naveen Patnaik, while also targeting senior leader V K Pandian.

Questioning the decision to suspend the two MLAs in the name of party “discipline”, Mishra alleged that they were being portrayed as corrupt and traitors. She further questioned who the “real traitor” was, amid growing discontent within the party following the disciplinary action.

Allegations Against Party Leadership

Addressing Naveen Patnaik indirectly in her posts, Mishra claimed that the party president had become trapped by his own decisions. While acknowledging his stature as a senior and respected leader, she alleged that what she described as his preference for non-Odia elements was repeatedly humiliating the people of Odisha.

She further alleged that by handing over effective control to what she termed a “fake ascetic”, the leadership was weakening an organisation built through the long-standing efforts of party workers. Mishra also questioned why the party leadership had not made public the facts and evidence against the suspended MLAs if it intended to establish neutrality.

‘Sadistic Pleasure’ Remarks and Strong Language

In her social media posts, Mishra alleged that responsibilities were knowingly handed over to a Tamil couple with the intent of undermining Odia self-respect. She described the move as “not politics” but an attempt to derive what she called “sadistic pleasure” by causing distress to the people of Odisha.

She further asserted that the soil of Odisha would not forgive those she described as “brand ambassadors of betrayal,” using strong language to underline her criticism of the party’s current leadership approach.

Background to Mishra’s Expulsion

According to reports, Shreemayee Mishra was earlier expelled from the BJD after raising concerns about the party’s internal functioning and speaking out against the withdrawal of an election ticket that had allegedly been allotted to her. Her latest remarks have added to the ongoing public debate over internal differences and leadership decisions within the BJD.
