The ambitious project is estimated to cost around Rs 20 crore, informed the NHAI Regional Office in Odisha.
Reduce Accidents
The proposed skywalk aims to address long-standing safety concerns on this crucial corridor, which witnesses heavy vehicular movement throughout the day. The Palasuni–Rasulgarh stretch is one of the most congested entry points into the capital city and has been considered accident-prone, particularly for pedestrians attempting to cross the highway amid fast-moving traffic.
According to officials, the skywalk will provide a dedicated and secure passage for pedestrians, significantly reducing the risk of road accidents. The initiative forms part of NHAI’s broader plan to enhance road safety infrastructure and streamline traffic movement along NH-16, which serves as a key arterial route connecting several parts of Odisha.
Safer Pedestrian Crossing
Over the years, there have been repeated demands from local residents and commuters for safer pedestrian crossings in the area. The upcoming skywalk is expected to ease such concerns while also improving overall traffic discipline on the stretch.
With infrastructure upgrades continuing across Bhubaneswar, the Palasuni–Rasulgarh skywalk project marks another significant development aimed at making the city’s highways safer and more commuter-friendly.
