Residents of Kalinga Vihar K-6 in Odisha's Bhubaneswar have raised serious concerns over the persistent dumping of garbage along the roadside, alleging that the foul smell and unhygienic conditions have made everyday life increasingly difficult. Locals claim that despite repeated complaints, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken no corrective action.

Large heaps of waste transported from outside the locality are being dumped in the area, causing an unbearable stench to spread through the neighbourhood, the residents alleged. They allege that BMC’s decisions have forced them to live in an unhealthy and unsafe environment.

Families, particularly those with elderly members and young children, say they are struggling to cope with the worsening conditions and have urged authorities to intervene immediately.

Complaints Submitted, No Action Yet

A resident said that the dumping has been continuing for the last seven days despite multiple complaints registered with the authorities.

“For the last seven days, this dumping has been going on. We even met the Mayor and sent a complaint to the BMC Commissioner, and we were assured that the required actions would be taken, but we see no improvement. Senior citizens living in this area have been hospitalised after the foul smell triggered asthma complications,” the resident said.

Another local alleged that garbage is being brought late at night to avoid attention.

“We do not know with what intention the BMC keeps dumping garbage in this area. This is done mostly after midnight. The garbage from other places is being brought here to clear those sites,” he said.

Children and Senior Citizens Affected

Residents also stated that the smell worsens throughout the day, forcing families to remain indoors.

“Our children cannot come out and play. The foul smell intensifies as the day proceeds,” another resident said.

Demands for Immediate Relief

Residents have questioned how a civic body can dump garbage in such a densely populated residential zone and have demanded immediate intervention to clear the waste and stop further dumping.
