Sequence of Events on Sunday Night

Police said the accused Dinesh, who is married and has a daughter, had been in Jagatsinghpur and returned to Bhubaneswar on the day of the incident. On Sunday, he repeatedly called Liza and continued making phone and video calls. When she did not respond, out of rage, he drove from Jagatsinghpur to her residence in Niladri Vihar.

He reached Liza’s room at around 1–2 am, and found Satyabrata there. Enraged on seeing his girlfriend with another man, Dinesh allegedly locked the room from outside, brought a knife from another room and confronted Satyabrata.

A scuffle broke out during which Dinesh reportedly stabbed Satyabrata twice. Despite Liza’s attempts to intervene, he allegedly stabbed him again before fleeing the scene, believing she had cheated on him.

Investigation and Aftermath

After the altercation, both men left the room in different directions. Satyabrata later collapsed near a temple chowk. Liza, with the help of locals, shifted him in an ambulance while, the accused Dinesh fled.

When Dinesh realised that police had launched a thorough investigation and were searching for him, he surrendered on Tuesday. Police are investigating the murder weapon and will conduct a recreation to determine the exact chain of events.

Separately, police confirmed that the owner of a vehicle had given it to another person, who, under the influence of alcohol, rammed the car down an overbridge.
