Odisha Chief Minister has announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh for the family of the victim in the Chandbali rape and murder case. This financial assistance comes in the wake of the tragic rape and murder of a minor girl in Bhadrak’s Chandbali that has drawn widespread attention and condemnation. The Chief Minister's directive aims to provide immediate support to the grieving family.
The compensation amount of Rs 10 lakh will be disbursed from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. This aid is specifically designated for the next of kin of the victim, ensuring that the family receives crucial support during this difficult time.
In addition to the financial aid, the Chief Minister has assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted into the heinous crime. He emphasised that the culprit responsible for this act will face the "harshest of punishments." This statement underscores the government's commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and her family.
Meanwhile, the primary accused in this deeply disturbing case has already been apprehended by authorities. This arrest followed significant public outcry and protests from local residents demanding justice for the victim. Soon after the incident came to light, anger boiled over on the streets as irate locals vandalised the house of the accused in Ramapalli locality of Chandbali. The district administration carried out an encroachment eviction drive at the crime location using a JCB machine to remove illegal structures. Heavy police deployment continues to maintain law and order as investigations progress.
