Bhadrak Excise officials seize brown sugar worth Rs 12 Lakh; 1 arrested in anti-drug raid

In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Excise Department of Odisha’s Bhadrak district seized a large quantity of brown sugar and arrested one person on charges of drug trafficking. The raid was carried out near Charigharia Chowk under the Bhadrak Town police station limits.

According to officials, the excise team recovered 120 grams of brown sugar, estimated to be worth over Rs12 lakh in the illegal market. The arrested accused has been identified as Bishwaranjan Nayak, a resident of Bankatira village under Agarapada police station.

Action Based on Intelligence Inputs

The operation was conducted following specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of narcotics in the area. Acting swiftly, excise officials intercepted the suspect near the busy Charigharia Chowk and conducted a search, leading to the recovery of the contraband. The accused was taken into custody on the spot.

Probe Under NDPS Act

Officials said a case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the seized brown sugar and to identify possible links to a larger drug trafficking network operating in the region.

The Excise Department stated that such enforcement drives will continue as part of intensified efforts to curb drug abuse and trafficking in Bhadrak district.
