Berhampur: In a unique move to streamline vehicular movement and spot the traffic violators, an Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) will be implemented in the silk city. The initiative, which is likely to come into force from May this year, is a joint effort of Berhampur Municipal Corpopration (BeMC), Police and the Regional Transport Office.

According to sources, initially the ITMS will be launched at Tata Benz Square, PVN Rao Petrol Pump, Kamapalli Square, Gate Bazar and Courtpeta area in the city. Under this system, CCTV cameras and Automated Solar lights would be installed at the signals.

The system will be monitored from BeMC office while the live feed would be inspected at Police Headquarters and RTO. Subsequently, the traffic rule violators can be easily spotted along with their vehicle details and penalised later, added sources.

“The system will automatically take the photographs of the commuters who will violate speed light, wrong side driving and red light. Though the system is connected to E-Vahan, penalty challan will be sent to the violator’s home address by the RTO. The system will be effective from May,” said BeMC Commissioner Chakravarti Singh Rathore.

“This initiative will help Police to exercise traffic enforcement in the city,” informed Berhampur Superintendent of Police (SP) Pinak Mishra.

“The new system will curtail traffic problems and can easily spot violators. The general public will be benefitted through this initiative,“ Asit Kumar Sabat, a local said.

Meanwhile, sources said that the system would begin on a trial basis at five different places. After evaluation, it will be implemented at ten busiest places in the city.
