Betting through G RAM G account! Racket busted in Odisha, four arrested

In a major crackdown under Operation Cyber Kavach, the Malkangiri police on Monday uncovered a large-scale online betting racket being operated through multiple bank accounts. The illegal betting activities reportedly involved transactions worth crores of rupees.

According to police sources, the racket came to light during the verification of suspected mule bank accounts. During the investigation, officials discovered that these accounts were being used to facilitate massive online betting operations through 'G RAM G' account.

Acting on the findings, police arrested as many as four cyber fraudsters allegedly involved in the racket. During the operation, authorities seized four mobile phones, two laptops, five bank passbooks, and cheque books.

Preliminary investigations revealed that two of the arrested accused are residents of Chhattisgarh. They were reportedly operating the fraudulent network from Raipur and coordinating the betting activities across different regions.

Police further stated that the accused targeted economically weaker beneficiaries from various districts of Odisha. They allegedly duped people by luring them with false promises and incentives.

"During the verification of mule bank accounts under Operation Cyber Kavach in Malkangiri, we found a modus operandi. Some middlemen were found from Kotpad area in Koraput district. They duped innocent people by luring them into a betting racket. There were transactions of around Rs 15 lakh on a daily basis. They have their networks in different states, and they were operating through WhatsApp. Further investigation into the incident is currently underway," said Malkangiri SP Vinod Patil.
