Bhubaneswar: Outlawed CPI (Maoist) has announced a change in its leadership. As per a press release issued by the banned organization, comrade Basavaraju alias Namballa Keshav Rao has been appointed general secretary of the CPI (Maoist).

Basavaraju will replace Ganpathy alias Muppalla Lakshmana Rao as the new general secretary of the Maoist organization. The decision was taken at the central committee meeting of the CPI (Moiats), stated spokesperson Abhay in the press release.Earlier, Ganpathy has expressed his desire to relinquish the CPI (Maoist) general secretary post on health grounds, it further read. He had been occupying the top post in the Maoist organization since 1992.

Meanwhile, Odisha Police said the change of guard will not affect anti-naxal operations in any way.

“I cannot say whether Odisha would be in their (Maoist) focus. But due to change in leadership, there won’t be any change in the operational approach of the police,” said RP Sharma, Odisha DGP.
