Bhubaneswar: Leader Of Opposition (LoP), Pradipta Nayak on Tuesday urged the Odisha government to ban sale of liquor and non-vegetarian food on Puri Bada Danda, the grand road in the pilgrim town.

In a letter to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Naik congratulated the State government for undertaking the beautification drive in 75 metres around Puri Jagannath Temple which is one of the four Dhams in the country and is a sacred place for the Hindus in the world.

“The recent beautification of Puri is attracting a large number of pilgrims. However, there are so many hotels on both sides of Bada Danda where non-vegetarian items and liquor are being served much to the discontent of devotees coming to Puri for the darshan of Lord Jagannath," Nayak said.

“Necessary steps should be taken to ban sale of non-vegetarian food and liquor in the hotels on both sides of Bada Danda (from Jagannath Temple to Mausimaa temple) at the earliest,” wrote Naik in his letter.
