In a significant anti-corruption action, the In-Charge Tehsildar of Soro in Balasore district was apprehended on Thursday by the Odisha vigilance department while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000. The amount was reportedly being taken from Khan Kadri of Pathan Mohalla village under Soro Municipality for the release of his stone-laden vehicles.
According to officials, the accused officer Daitari Mallik was caught while accepting the money through an intermediary linked to the Soro Truck Association.
Daitari Mallik was serving as the In-Charge Tehsildar of Soro at the time of the incident. Acting on specific inputs regarding the alleged demand and acceptance of a bribe, a four-member vigilance team laid a trap and conducted a swift raid, catching him red-handed while the transaction was underway.

During the operation, vigilance officials also detained Dayanidhi Jena, an employee of the Soro Truck Association, who was allegedly assisting in the transaction.
Recently, Odisha Vigilance apprehended Kabiraj Sethi, Additional Tehsildar, Belaguntha in Ganjam district on 12th February, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe to release a sand-laden tractor.
According to Vigilance officials, the accused officer had detained the tractor on February 5, 2026 without officially recording the seizure. Despite the tractor owner submitting supporting documents, the Additional Tehsildar allegedly demanded a bribe for its release.
