Recent Similar Cases at KIIT University

This is not the first such death in recent months at KIIT. Two other high-profile cases have drawn widespread attention and concern:

On 16 February 2025, Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year B.Tech student from Nepal, was found dead in her hostel room. Her death had triggered widespread protests on campus, with many students demanding justice, transparency, and action against the accused.

Fellow students alleged that harassment and negligence by the university administration contributed to the tragedy.

In the wake of these deaths, a fact-finding committee constituted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) reportedly held KIIT responsible, citing substandard hostel conditions, negligence in handling complaints, and administrative lapses.

Another tragic incident unfolded at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar as another girl student from Nepal was allegedly found dead on campus.

Authorities Respond to Recent Student Demise

Later in the day, the KIIT University acknowledged the recent student suicide and issued an official statement through a press release.

The institute’s Public Relations Director, Sradhanjali Nayak, stated that, “Rising suicide tendency among students is a wider concern. However, she termed certain factual news reports as "exaggerated". She added that the matter has already been reported to the police, and an investigation is underway.
