Ammonia gas leak from cold storage triggers panic in Balasore
Balasore: Ammonia gas leakage from a cold storage triggered panic in Balasore town today. The incident was reported from ITI square. On being informed, fire tenders reached the spot and plugged the gas leakage, bringing the situation under control.
As per reports, some locals spotted the leakage of ammonia gas from a cold storage. Though the fire tenders brought the situation under control, tension prevailed in the area as locals launched protest by staging a road blockade and alleging negligence of concerned authorities. Police reached the spot to pacify the locals and later removed the road blockade following discussions.
“Upon receiving calls from the locals, the fire tenders reached the spot immediately and brought the situation under control. As per the allegations, ammonia gas leakage from the cold storage has happened many times before, but no action has been taken to address the issue,” said Umesh Chandra Panda, DSP, Balasore.
“We have drawn attention of the district administration to the matter and necessary action will be taken,” added Panda.
