Amar Satpathy, Prabhat Tripathy’s Delhi visit sparks political buzz in Odisha

Senior politicians Amar Satpathy and Prabhat Tripathy returned to Bhubaneswar from New Delhi on Saturday, amid speculation over their recent visit to the national capital.

Addressing the media after their return, both leaders said the trip was undertaken for personal reasons. Responding to questions about a possible switch to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Amar Satpathy said no discussions had been held on the matter.

They sought to dispel rumours surrounding their Delhi visit and maintained that there was no political agenda linked to the trip.

There has been no talk about joining the BJP. If and when any decision is taken, it will be communicated at the appropriate time, he said, adding that no decision has been made about forming or joining a new political outfit either.

“No discussions regarding joining the BJP have been made. Similarly, no decision on forming a new party is taken. I will communicate the development at the right time,” Satpathy said.

Echoing similar views, Prabhat Tripathy said the ongoing speculation was unnecessary and unfounded. There is no reason for such rumours. Our visit to Delhi is being unnecessarily politicised, he remarked.

The Delhi visit of the two veteran leaders had triggered intense political buzz in the state, with widespread conjecture about possible realignments. However, their statements have, for now, sought to put such speculation to rest.
