Ama Bus, private buses face strict safety checks in Odisha

In a significant development, not only the Ama Bus services but also private buses were subjected to strict safety inspections in Rourkela on Monday.

Keeping passenger safety in mind, strict checking was reportedly carried out at two locations in Rourkela today.

During the drive, buses were stopped and thoroughly inspected. Authorities verified drivers’ licences, vehicle fitness certificates, and conducted checks to ascertain whether drivers were under the influence of alcohol.

In addition, action was taken against overloaded vehicles, with fines imposed on violators. The aim of the intensified enforcement was to ensure safer travel for passengers and curb traffic rule violations in the city.

"Driving license and alcohol test checks were conducted during the inspection," said a driver of a private bus in Rourkela.

"Vehicle fitness, other required documents, driving licences, conductors’ licences, and alcohol tests of drivers were checked during the inspection. Bus staff were also sensitised about road safety. Action was taken against defaulters, and vehicles were seized wherever required. The inspections were conducted today at Panposh and Hanuman Vatika squares," said an official.

"I was fined for overloading my vehicle, and I admit that it was my mistake. I do not yet possess a driving licence, although I have already applied for one and it is in process. At the time of the incident, I was driving the vehicle using my father’s driving licence," said a driver.
