Ailing Humane Sagar compelled to perform in Bhubaneswar? FIR in Cuttack seeks probe into team’s role

Nearly a week before his death, celebrated Odia playback singer Humane Sagar performed at a star hotel in Bhubaneswar, where he was visibly unwell and struggling to sing, raising fresh questions about whether he was compelled to perform despite his deteriorating health condition.

Video from the November 9 night event shows the singer halting repeatedly, gasping for breath and facing difficulty while singing a song dedicated to his mother.

Despite this condition, Humane continued singing, prompting speculation over what pressure or compulsion might have forced him to perform. Videos from the event have now gone viral on social media, with fans commenting on their experience from that night’s show.

“I would like to apologise as I may not be able to sing properly today. I am unable to stand. It is just one of those days when your body feels overworked. It is nothing serious,” Humane could be heard addressing the audience.

Audience members present at the show now claim it was evident that something was not right with the music icon. 

“Anyone could see something was wrong… neither his voice was normal, nor was he able to sing properly,” commented a fan reportedly present among the audience that night.

“Everything in his voice had changed; it sounded completely different from before,” he added.

FIR Filed Seeking Probe Into Financial Dealings

In the wake of the singer’s death, Odia filmmaker Jitu Raut has filed a written complaint at Cuttack Madhupatna Police Station alleging that those handling Humane’s professional and financial affairs may have played a negligent role. The complaint demands a high-level investigation into his finances, treatment and alleged exploitation.

The FIR alleges that large volumes of income earned by Humane Sagar may have been siphoned off. It directly accuses members associated with his management group of benefiting from his earnings while allegedly ignoring his worsening condition.

Quoting Humane’s family, particularly his mother, Jitu said, “As per Humane’s mother, several people, including Dinesh, Arpita, or Prashant, were involved. The truth will be out.”

“I fight for justice, and it is for that fight that I have filed this FIR. People who earned because of him are silent. Whatever happened with him can happen with anyone else. Decisive action is necessary,” he added.

Odisha Music Fraternity Demands Clarity

As tributes continue to pour in for a voice that defined an era of modern Odia music, Humane Sagar’s final performance, his compromised health, questions over alleged exploitation and the emotional appeals from his mentor and family have intensified public demand for answers.

Police officials have confirmed that the complaint has been received and further action will follow upon examination of the allegations and evidence submitted. The investigation is expected to move forward once preliminary statements are collected.
