Bhubaneswar: Eminent actor Bijay Mohanty is returning to Odisha after undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Hyderabad where he was hospitalized after suffering a cardiac arrest last month.

He is being shifted to Bhubaneswar in a special ambulance and is likely to reach the State tomorrow morning at around 10 pm. Sources said the veteran actor will be hospitalised in Bhubaneswar for further treatment as he is yet to recover completely.

A few days ago, Mohanty himself had expressed his willingness to return to Odisha and continue his treatment, but due to the lockdown restrictions, he was unable to return.

After receiving the news of the actor's indisposition, Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi lent a helping hand to shift the actor from Hyderabad. Following necessary discussions between the private hospitals in Bhubaneswar and Hyderabad, it was finally decided that Mohanty would be shifted to Odisha by road and a special ambulance was sent to Hyderabad to bring back the actor, informed sources.

Mohanty’s daughter expressed her gratitude towards MP Sarangi and well-wishers for coming forward to help her family during this difficult time.

The authorities of the Bhubaneswar-based Care Hospital, where Mohanty will undergo treatment, have informed that all arrangements have been made.

“A very good doctor from our hospital along with some support staff is accompanying Mohanty,” said Pragyan Kumar Routray, head of the critical care unit in Bhubaneswar Care Hospitals.

Routray further added, “We have prepared a special bed in our ICU for his immediate treatment once he arrives and we will keep him under observation for at least a day. If his condition is fully stable we will shift him to a general cabin where he might have to stay at least for a few days till he completely recuperates.”
