Renowned Odia singer and music composer Abhijit Majumdar continues to remain in a critical condition and is currently under intensive medical supervision. According to AIIMS Bhubaneswar hospital sources, Majumdar was shifted back to ICU after his condition further deteriorated on Saturday.
As per sources, Majumdar, who suffers from multiple comorbidities including hypertension, hypothyroidism, and chronic liver disease, was admitted to the AIIMS emergency unit on September 4 in a comatose state and placed on ventilator support.
Following initial treatment, he was diagnosed with Osmotic Demyelination Syndrome (both pontine and extrapontine), Bilateral Pneumonia, Blood Stream Infection (MDRO–Acinetobacter), and severe electrolyte and nutritional deficiencies. Despite prolonged care, his neurological condition showed no improvement.

A repeat MRI conducted on September 18 revealed no progress from earlier findings. After temporary stabilization, Majumdar was shifted from the Medical ICU to the Medicine Ward on September 25, following partial recovery from pneumonia and blood infection. However, his neurological status remained unchanged, and he continued to be in a comatose state.
In the past 24 hours, his condition reportedly deteriorated, with worsening neurological response and a new infection leading to respiratory distress. Doctors had to reinitiate mechanical ventilation and vasopressor support to stabilize his haemodynamics. He was shifted back to the Medical ICU on Saturday morning for intensive monitoring and treatment.
Hospital authorities have described his condition as critical but under constant observation.
