He dreamt of excelling in his studies, building a successful career and lifting his poor parents and sisters out of hardship. But fate has dealt a cruel blow. Satyaprakash Swain, a meritorious Class X student from Ramchandrapur village under Astaranga block in Odisha’s Puri district, is now battling a serious kidney disease and lies bedridden, his once-bright future clouded by uncertainty.

Satyaprakash, the only son of daily wage labourer Panchanan Swain, had made his family, school and village proud by excelling in scholarship examinations at both district and state levels. He had received awards from Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida and the District Collector in recognition of his academic achievements.

However, after developing a cold, his face began to swell. Initial treatment at Astaranga was followed by detailed tests at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, where doctors diagnosed a kidney infection. He is currently undergoing dialysis, and doctors have advised a kidney transplant for his survival.

“Earlier, I was in good health, but I constantly suffered from cold. After undergoing blood tests, everything initially appeared normal. However, a few days later, my face began to swell, and further medical examination revealed that I was suffering from kidney problems, with increased urea. I have been advised to undergo dialysis for two months, after which discussions regarding a kidney transplant will be held at AIIMS. I sincerely request the Odisha government to provide financial assistance for my treatment,” said Satya Prakash, patient.

Mounting Expenses, Fading Resources

With treatment costs soaring, the family’s Ayushman card funds are nearly exhausted. For his father, who supports the family through daily labour and farming, arranging such a large sum is beyond reach.

“Doctors have informed us that a huge amount of money will be required for the treatment. That is why I am appealing to everyone for financial support. Only if we are able to arrange sufficient funds can we proceed with the kidney transplant,” said his father Panchanan Swain.

Though some generous locals have extended financial assistance and the local Tehsildar has assured support, substantial funds are still required.

“We are making efforts to ensure he receives financial assistance from the government, whether through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund or the Red Cross. I am in discussions with higher authorities and following due procedures to facilitate financial aid for the student,” said Priyanka Priyadarshini Pati, Tehsildar.

The family now appeals to the government and kind-hearted individuals to come forward and help save a young life full of promise. Even the smallest contribution could help restore hope to this determined student’s future.
