4-yr-old boy killed after tractor crushes mother and child in Odisha

A road accident claimed the life of a four-year-old child and left his mother critically injured on Thursday after a tractor driver lost control and the vehicle rammed into them while they were sitting near a roadside drain.

The tragic incident took place at Karmakata village under Kishorenagar police limits in Angul district. The male child was identified as Sriram Dehuri, who belonged to the village.

According to sources, the woman and her young son were sitting along the edge of a drain on the village road in the morning. At that moment, the tractor moving along the road allegedly lost balance and veered off, crashing into the drain.

The vehicle fell directly onto the mother and child, who were seated there. The impact proved fatal for the young boy, who died on the spot. The mother sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to the Kishorenagar community health centre (CHC).

As her condition deteriorated, doctors referred the woman to Angul District Headquarters Hospital for advanced treatment.

“A tractor coming on the road, bearing registration number OR-19 E-6770, lost control and entered the roadside drain, running over the woman and her son. As a result, four-year-old Sriram Dehuri died at the scene,” an eyewitness stated.

Following the incident, Kishorenagar police seized the tractor involved in the accident and detained the driver. Police have sent the body for a post-mortem. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the mishap.
