3 arrested in Nirgundi double murder case in Odisha; more arrests likely

In a significant breakthrough in the sensational Nirguni double murder in Choudwar of Cuttack district, the police on Friday arrested three persons, including a garage manager, a staffer, and a security guard, all suspected to be directly involved in the crime.

According to a preliminary investigation, the accused tied up two young men and brutally assaulted them, leading to their deaths. Following the arrests, police have launched an intensified search operation to nab other suspects linked to the case. Multiple teams have been deployed, and raids are continuing at possible hideouts.

Police sources stated that further details will emerge after sustained interrogation of the arrested accused. The investigation is underway to establish the motive behind the killings and to identify the roles of all those involved in the crime.

Police suspect that the garage staff mistook the two men for thieves due to previous theft incidents at the garage. They were allegedly taken inside, tied to poles and brutally assaulted throughout the night. Loud music was reportedly played to drown out their screams, and the attackers were under the influence of alcohol.

However, no comments were received from local police in this regard.

Worth mentioning, the two young men were found dead inside a motor garage near Tangi–Nirgundi railway station along the national highway (NH-16) under Tangi police limits in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Md Soheb of Teruan village and Prashant Kumar Jena from the Choudwar Jatra Padia area, both under Choudwar police limits. Visible injury marks were found on their bodies, raising strong suspicion that the two may have been killed rather than dying of natural causes.
