The body of a 28-year-old youth was recovered from an open drain in Daspalla, Nayagarh district, on Tuesday morning, with the exact cause of death yet to be officially confirmed. The incident took place near the Sai Temple at Krushnachandrapur Patana village in Ward 12 under Daspalla police limits.
The deceased, identified as Rabi Nahak of Krushnachandrapur Patana, had reportedly left home early in the morning to visit a nearby pond as part of his daily routine. His body was later discovered lying in the uncovered drain, following which local residents immediately alerted the police.
Initial reports suggest that the youth may have accidentally slipped into the drain, with dense fog in the area likely reducing visibility. Police, however, stated that a detailed investigation is in progress to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to his death.
Locals Allege Administrative Negligence
Residents of the area have accused the NAC administration of negligence, alleging that despite repeated complaints, no slab was ever installed over the open drain. They claimed that the administration’s inaction led to a preventable tragedy.
Police sources indicated that preliminary findings point toward accidental death due to the fall, though the final conclusion will depend on the ongoing inquiry. Meanwhile, locals have demanded immediate repair of the drain and urged authorities to address long-standing civic issues. They have also sought justice for the untimely death of Rabi Nahak.
