2 Odisha girls miss matric exam after being injured in road accident

In an unfortunate incident, two schoolgirls were seriously injured on Monday after being hit by a speeding motorcycle while on their way to appear for the matriculation examination in Odisha’s Balasore district.

The injured students, Mamata Majhi and Jyotiprabha Majhi of Abhana Nodal High School under Bahanaga block, were cycling to Bishnupur Nodal High School to take their matric exams when the accident occurred.

Locals immediately rushed to their aid and shifted them to the Gopalpur Community Health Centre for treatment. However, as Jyotiprabha’s condition worsened, she was referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced medical care.

The fatal mishap forced both students to miss their crucial matriculation examination. Police have detained the motorcyclist responsible for the accident, and a probe is underway.

No comments were received from local police or the victim girls in this regard.

Worth mentioning, earlier in another incident, an auto-rickshaw carrying schoolchildren had overturned on January 6 near Balada locality, close to Mangalpur under Dasarathpur police limits in Jajpur district. The incident occurred while the auto was returning students from a local school.

Four of the children had sustained serious injuries and were initially taken to a hospital in Dasarathpur for emergency care. Later, they were admitted to Jajpur district headquarters hospital (DHH) for further treatment. The auto driver had also sustained injuries.
