Keonjhar: Alleged cases of medical negligence have claimed two lives at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Keonjhar Monday night.

As per reports, an unidentified person was admitted to Keonjhar DHH after the patient complained of high blood pressure. He was administered saline last night, however his condition worsened today morning following which he died. Family members of the deceased have accused the hospital attendants of neglecting treatment which subsequently led to his death.

An eyewitness, Tukuna alleged that even though he complained the medical authorities that only a single oxygen cylinder out of three supplied was working, nobody listened to his concerns.

In another incident, one Janaki Patra who was also admitted to the DHH after suffering snakebite too succumbed in the hospital while undergoing treatment. Her bereaved family has blamed the hospital staff of administering injection even after her death.

"Neither the doctor nor any of the nurses paid heed to my repeated requests to attend my mother. They were all busy with other patients," said Kulamani Patra, son of Janaki.

Replying to allegations from the family members, the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) of Keonjhar, Ashok Kumar said, "It's unfortunate that the patient died, but administering last minute measures before declaring a patient dead is also a standard procedure of doctors. I will, anyway constitute a team to investigate the allegations and only comment further after going through the report."
