The victims from Belbahali village had gone to their college as usual in the morning. After finishing their classes, the two friends had been returning home on bicycles when the car allegedly lost control and rammed into them. Both students had sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot.
Following the incident, tension had gripped the locality as residents staged a road blockade, demanding strict action against the car driver and adequate compensation for the victims’ families.
In the past five years, before March 2025, the State had witnessed an annual average of 11,366 road accidents, injuring nearly 10,008 people and claiming around 5,433 lives.
