12 of wedding party critically injured after auto-rickshaw overturns in Odisha

At least 12 people, including women and children, sustained serious injuries after an auto-rickshaw overturned near Kandhakel village on National Highway-26 under Saintala police limits in Odisha’s Bolangir district, on Wednesday.

According to sources, the driver of the ill-fated auto-rickshaw lost control of the vehicle, and it overturned while travelling along the highway. The injured include five children, six women, and one man who were on board the vehicle at the time of the accident.

It is said that all the passengers were residents of Saresmal village under the Deogaon police limits of the district. They were heading towards Gandapatrapali near Saintala to attend a wedding ceremony when the mishap occurred.

Following the accident, ambulances rushed the injured to Saintala hospital for treatment. Their condition is reported to be serious now.

Police reached the spot soon after receiving information and have initiated an investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of the accident.

“A total of 12 persons, including women and children, had come to the health facility. Some of them have sustained grievous injuries to their head. However, their health condition is stable at this moment,” a doctor of the hospital, Lipsa Tripathy, said when contacted.

“After they arrived at the hospital, they were administered first-aid, and the wounds were stitched thereafter. Two of the critically injured are being referred to Bolangir hospital for a CT scan of the brain and further treatment,” the lady doctor expressed.
