A 12-foot-long python was rescued on Monday after it became trapped in a fishing net during routine fishing activities in Chilika Lake, Odisha.

A 12-foot-long python was rescued on Monday after it became trapped in a fishing net during routine fishing activities in Chilika Lake, Odisha. The incident took place near Lambodharpur village, close to Balugaon, where local fishermen spotted the massive snake entangled in their net in the early hours.

According to the fishermen, the python weighed an estimated 40–50 kilograms. Startled by the unexpected catch, they promptly alerted the authorities. The reptile remained trapped in the net until officials reached the site.

Rescue Operation by Chilika Wildlife Division

Upon receiving the information, a team from the Chilika Wildlife Division rushed to the spot and conducted a careful rescue operation. Wildlife Ranger Rashmita Jena, who headed the team, confirmed that the python was safely disentangled from the fishing net. The reptile was found to be in stable condition after the rescue, officials said.

Released in Kali Jugeswar Hills

Following the successful operation, the python was transported to the nearby Kali Jugeswar hills and released into the wild. Officials noted that the area was selected to ensure the snake's safety and to provide an appropriate natural habitat for its survival.
