A 10-foot-long king cobra was rescued from the Dukura Range area of Odisha’s Baripada on Wednesday, preventing a potentially dangerous situation in a nearby village. The reptile was found near Bahalda village after it strayed out of the forest and entered a residential house, triggering panic among locals.
Upon spotting the snake, villagers reportedly attempted to kill it out of fear. However, timely intervention by forest officials ensured that the situation was brought under control without any harm to the animal or residents.
Forest Department Steps In
Officials from the Forest Department were alerted about the incident following the sighting of the king cobra inside the house. The local Range Officer immediately reached the spot and began counselling villagers, urging them not to harm the protected reptile and explaining the importance of wildlife conservation.
The Range Officer also coordinated with members of the Snake Helpline to carry out a safe rescue operation. Their combined efforts helped calm the situation and ensured the snake was handled professionally.

Snake Released Back into Natural Habitat
After being safely rescued from near Bahalda village, the king cobra was released back into the forest by the Forest Department. Officials confirmed that the operation was conducted smoothly and without injury to the snake.
The incident highlights the increasing instances of wildlife entering human settlements near forested areas and underscores the role of awareness and quick response in ensuring the safety of both people and animals.
