According to preliminary information, a massive explosion occurred when firecrackers were being prepared inside a house in Cuttack. The blast was so intense that the asbestos roof of the house was blown apart, leaving the structure severely damaged.
The deceased is believed to have been a worker involved in the manufacture of firecrackers. Locals reported to Sadar police hearing a loud explosion, following which panic spread in the area. Police and fire services rushed to the spot soon after receiving information and began rescue and safety operations.
Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the explosion and whether safety norms were violated. Further details are awaited as the probe continues.
No comments were received from the victim’s family or local police in this regard.
Worth mentioning, earlier in another incident, a new twist had surfaced on January 15 this year in the recent firecracker explosion incident linked to Bhogi Podi festival celebrations in Odisha’s Rayagada district.
Contrary to earlier reports that suggested the blast had occurred at the festival venue, the latest information revealed that the explosion had actually taken place inside a person’s house while firecrackers were allegedly being prepared.
The severe blast had left several people seriously injured, causing severe burn injuries.
A person had lost an eye in the explosion while another injured individual, identified as Havildar Krushna Chandra Bag, had sustained critical injuries to his palm. The incident had triggered panic in the locality, with residents rushing to the spot to help the injured.
The injured had been immediately rushed to nearby hospital in critical condition. However, as their health conditions worsened, four severely injured persons were later shifted to Visakhapatnam for advanced medical treatment.
