A four-wheeler vehicle rammed into a stationary truck on the Bolangir–Sambalpur NH-26 near Jamsar late on Friday night, leaving one person dead and seven others critically injured.
The vehicle was returning to Kalahandi after a medical trip to Burla when the accident occurred.
According to reports, eight people, including the driver, were travelling in the four-wheeler vehicle from Tumura village in Kalahandi district to Burla to treat two patients.
After being discharged following the treatment, they were on their way back to their village when the speeding four-wheeler collided with a truck that was parked on the roadside near Jamsar in Odisha's Bolangir district.

The impact of the collision led to the death of a passenger identified as Kabiram Jagat while seven others sustained critical injuries. Fire Department personnel and police reached the spot shortly after the incident. They carried out the rescue operation of the injured and shifted them first to Bolangir DHH.
However, as their condition reportedly deteriorated, they were later referred to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital for further treatment.
Eyewitness Account and Police Probe
One of the injured passengers recalled, “I am not sure where exactly the accident happened as we were all asleep. I woke up in severe pain and found two people lying on my legs. When I looked around, everyone inside the vehicle was unconscious. I do not know if the driver had consumed alcohol.”
