Cuttack: Maximum number of COVID19 cases in Cuttack belong to the age-group of 21 to 40 years, informed Cuttack Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ananya Das in a press briefing on Sunday.

As per last week’s (8th Aug-14th Aug) data provided by Das, there are 822 active cases in Cuttack and out of that, 375 cases belong to the age group of 21-40 constituting 46% of the current active cases in Silver City.

Similarly, 261 active cases are from 41-60 age groups, 124 are from 0-20 age groups and 62 active cases belong to the age group of above 60.

Raising concern on the trend of a majority of youths getting infected with COVID-19, Das said, “It gives us an insight about the behaviour of public. Youths, it seems are going out more and in turn getting themselves infected.”

“While the number of infected elderly and senior citizens is only 62, they still remain the most vulnerable people. In a joint family setup, youths getting infected pose a threat to the elderly too,” added Das.

Earlier on Sunday, Cuttack city witnessed 119 new COVID19 cases taking the total cases to 2270 in the CMC area. Besides, another 80 recoveries have also been reported in the last 24 hours.

With a growing number of cases, Cuttack Municipal Corporation has begun COVID19 testing at various Public Heath Centres & Community Health Centres under its jurisdiction. People with COVID symptoms can get themselves tested at the centres.
