Baripada: A youth was arrested for impersonating as an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer and demanding money from people of the town on Wednesday.

The accused has been identified as Rajat Kumar Panda, a resident of Boulapal village under Tihidi block of Bhadrak district.

According to reports, the accused Rajat had demanded Rs 30,000 from one Payal Ray to help register her Non-government organisation (NGO).

However, suspecting him to be an imposter, Payal lodged an FIR at Town Police Station.

Based on the complaint, police probed the matter and arrested the accused.

“We have seized two mobile phones, cash worth Rs 10,000 and recovered many forged documents of different people from the accused’s possession,” informed Inspector-in-Charge of Town police station Ashok Kumar Nayak.

During interrogation, police also found that Rajat was earlier arrested for duping money from people by posing as an Indian Administrative Officer.
