Youth arrested for raping of 11-year-old girl in Rourkela

Rourkela: Police today arrested a youth for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl at Railway Colony in Rourkela of Sundergarh district. According to sources, the accused youth identified as Ajay Rao alias Negalu allegedly picked up the girl while she was playing in front of her house and subsequently raped her. Ajay, however, fled from the spot after committing the crime, sources said.

Later, the locals nabbed Ajay and thrashed him before handing him over to the Plant Site Police Station officials. Ajay again tried to flee from the spot while he was being handed over to the police officials. However, he was nabbed and taken into custody by the police, sources added.

Meanwhile, the survivor has been admitted to the hospital.

Plant Site Police Station IIC, Anil Pradhan said "We registered a case and started investigations after the girl's mother filed a complaint. Evidences suggest that the accused youth is involved in the crime. We arrested the youth and forwarded him to the court today."
