Bhubaneswar: Police on Wednesday arrested a youth for killing a woman and chopping her body into two parts in Chandaka area of Khurda district.

According to sources, a woman of Chandaka area went missing on December 13 and after detailed investigation police recovered marriage related documents from her house.

On basis of a police complaint filed by the family of the woman, the police detained parents of a youth identified as Yudhistir and questioned them in connection with the missing case.

Yudhistir was arrested by the police today after he surrendered and confessed to have murdered the woman.

According to his statements, he had kidnapped the woman on December 13 and took her to the forest. Later he strangulated the woman and cut her body into two parts with a knife inside Malipada forest in Chandaka before fleeing the spot.

Based on his statements, police today took the accused and family members of the deceased to the forest and identified the body. Forensic team carried out an on-spot investigation and examined the body along with other evidences.

Although the exact reason behind the murder is yet to be ascertained, police suspect that Yudhistir and the woman had love relationship. Meanwhile, the forensic team reached the spot and probe into the marriage related documents is underway.

On the other hand, family of the woman alleged she was raped by the accused and later murdered.
