Bhadrak: An 11-year-old boy died allegedly after being administered wrong medicines at a clinic operating inside a chemist shop in Ghanteswar Bazaar of Bhadrak district on Thursday.

The matter came to the fore yesterday after the family members of the minor boy lodged a police complaint against the clinic owner identified as Madanmohan.

Reports said the minor boy Suresh Barik, son of Gangadhar Barik of Biriadia village under Bansada Police limits, fell ill on Thursday following which he was immediately taken to Maa Tarini Medicine Store in Ghanteswar Bazaar area.

The clinic owner, Madanmohan reportedly administered Suresh an injection and gave some medicines without any examination. Later, he asked Gangadhar to shift him to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for better treatment.

Suresh was accordingly rushed to Bhadrak DHH. However, he succumbed while undergoing treatment at the DHH.

After the doctors at the DHH confirmed that Suresh died due to the wrong treatment at the clinic, the family members of the minor boy lodged an FIR against Madanmohan at Ghanteswar Outpost.

Madanmohan is yet to be arrested and has reportedly gone missing after the police complaint.

“He (Madanmohan) is not a doctor, he just cheats people by prescribing them medicines arbitrarily," said victim's brother, Manas Barik.

"He died because of the side-effects of the injection. Though we lodged an FIR at Ghanteswar Outpost yesterday, the police officials are yet to take any action,” alleged victim's neighbour, Pradip Barik.

Meanwhile, Ghanteswar Police Outpost officials are yet to comment on the matter.
