Rourkela: The Plant Site Police Monday night busted a racket in Rourkela involved in betting during the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2019 matches and arrested two persons from near Daily Market here.

Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid at Janata Nibas Lane near Daily Market where betting was on and subsequently nabbed two bookies last night for their alleged involvement. This apart, police recovered more than Rs 31 lakh in cash and 15 mobile phones from the possession of the arrested persons, sources said.

The arrest was made when a match between Bangladesh and Afghanistan was being played at the Rose Bowl, Southampton.

This is not for the first time that Plant Site police has busted betting rackets in the city. A similar racket involved in betting during Indian Premier League (IPL) matches was busted a few months ago where police managed to arrest three persons from Nala Road area. The cops had also seized Rs 9.04 lakh cash, mobile phones and other electronic gadgets from their possession.

Meanwhile, a senior police official informed that the arrestees are being interrogated and an investigation is underway to nab other bookies in the gang.
