Bhadrak: A group of women destroyed foreign liquor worth lakhs of rupees at Karanpali village under Bansada police limits in Bhadrak district while it was being illegally transported in a Bolero Wednesday night.
The liquor was being smuggled from Basudevpur to Dhamra area in the district, sources said.
Acting on a tip-off about the transportation of the liquor consignment, Nayakandi police chased the Bolero following which the vehicle entered Karanpali village in a bid to give a slip to the cops.
However, suspecting something fishy, a few locals intercepted the Bolero and spotted the huge amount of liquor in the vehicle.
Soon tension erupted after a group of women ransacked the vehicle and destroyed all the liquor bottles.
Later, Bansada police rushed to the spot and detained the driver of the Bolero while a case has been registered into the incident.
“The driver has been detained. We have registered a case and further investigation is on,” said a police official.
