Khurda: Hundreds of women residents of Gobindpur panchayat today locked up some policemen including inspector-in-charge of Begunia police station inside the premises of panchayat office in Khurda for stopping them on their way to meet Superintendent of Police (SP).

"We were travelling in a bus to meet the SP at the Collectorate but some cops asked our driver to stop the bus following which we couldn't reach our destination," said a woman protester.

After being detained for nearly six hours, the cops were rescued after additional police force reached the spot.

According to sources, more than 200 women were going to meet the SP to submit a memorandum demanding a detailed investigation into the death of one Saroj Sahu, who was found hanging on November 13. The villagers alleged that it was not a suicide rather Sahu was murdered as there were injury marks

The villagers alleged that on the day of incident, police reached the spot after 14 hours while a case was registered on November 18. Despite alleging that the youth was murdered, the cops took no steps to nab the accused.

Protesting police in-action, the protesters blocked road by burning tyres today which disrupted the vehicular movement for a long time in the area.

"The villagers are demanding investigation into the death of a man. We are trying our best to submit the final report in the case. They didn't detain us but closed the door to prevent male members from entering the premises of the panchayat office," IIC of Begunia police station, Rashmi Ranjan Sahu, said.
